Welcome, Allison! Please tell us about yourself.
I am a mom, wife, business owner, and author. Coffee is my best friend. I live a very organized life because there is just so much going on that if I don’t want to go insane I have to keep everything on schedule.
You’ve just come out with a second edition of your first novel, Sacrifice of Innocence. What led to the decision to publish a new version?
To put it bluntly it wasn’t living up to the standards I wanted it to. I was seriously disappointed in the work that the publishing company I was working with at the time of the first edition had done. So I rereleased with a fresh new look and a completely revised inside.
Your lead character is a male. Did you set out to write in this voice, or did he simply appear on the page (or in your creative process) one day?
He just appeared one day to the best that my memory serves. He`s been around for the last seven years of my life so I can`t honestly remember where he came from but I love having him around
Who would you cast as Stan Brookshire in the movie version?
A slightly heavier mix of Keifer Sutherland and David Caruso.
As a self-published author, do you have advice or suggestions to share with other writers who are considering this path to publishing?
Don’t settle for second best ever. Not from yourself or from anyone you may work with along the way from draft to published.
Tell us about upcoming novel, Dragon Twins, the sequel to Sacrifice of Innocence.
This time it is the lives of two young teens are irrevocably intertwined and a Triad Dragon Master wants them for his own. Stan once again finds himself in a situation where time is of the essence and he has to go to extraordinary measures to get the job done.
When did you know you were going to a sequel? Will there be a third book in the series?
It just sort of happened. My characters weren’t ready to be quiet at the end of Sacrifice of Innocence. One thing lead to another, which of course lead to another and then another. All told there are ten novels in the series at this point. Most are complete ready to slow release over the next few years.
Since you know him so well by now, did your main character, Stan Brookshire, surprise you at any point in the writing process?
Not really. He is exactly the kind of hero I would expect a normal everyday person to be. He has his flaws like all of the rest of us and the beauty of him is we get to see how he gets around those flaws to be the hero Lake City needs.
Do you outsource any of the preparations for your e-books (editing, formatting, covers, etc)? Will you change any of those decisions next time you publish?
Nope! I outsourced both the cover and the editing and I would never change those decisions. The ladies that worked on each of those parts did an amazing job and I am so proud to have worked with them.
How do you incorporate social media into your marketing strategy? Does anything stand out as a “must do” for writers and authors?
Twitter and Facebooks are must haves as a bare minimum. Also a blog and a website. You need to have a way to connect with your readers on various levels in order to get the word out to them.
Do you have a favorite quote or motto that guides your professional choices?
Carpe Diem. Seize the day. And I do. I will try everything once and I will never back down from a challenge.
